ENCOURAGEMENT
Jesus called his followers to follow Him to 'fish' for men. Paul called Timothy (his follower) to imitate him as he imitated Christ. These calls encouraged followership and got the right response.
ASSURANCE
Jesus assured His disciples that following Him offers great reward. The various apostles at various times made clear that a reward awaited those who follow them as they followed Christ.
