BULLSEYE PRAYERS father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? \[12\] Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? \[13\] If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” The foregoing verses make it very clear that the parable of Jesus was wholesomely about the subject of prayer. Prayer as a Responsibility Toward Others We must not miss this important point in this parable and it is that prayer is a call to take responsibility. It should be engaged as a responsibility to others. All too often, we engage in prayer for our own purposes. Our prayers are sharply focused on meeting our own needs, albeit carnal rather than spiritual needs. We seldom take the issues bothering on the needs of others to the throne of grace, seeking with as much earnestness as we engage in the pursuit of our own interests, that they be met by the Lord. 106.
