LEND ME THREE LOAVES However, we are only allowed to ask for these things (food) directly from God if and when it is meant for someone else and we don’t have them in our possession. The person in the parable who went to the friend had gone to ‘pray’ for food. In doing so, however, it was so that he could bless his friend. That gesture is one of love, and it amounts to seeking the kingdom of God! The Pursuit of Love The ‘prayer’ of the one who received a visitor was in pursuit of love and love is at the heart of God’s nature. All that God does to us is in furtherance of His love for us. Love is precisely what God called has called us to become and to show toward others. When we seek for that, we seek for His kingdom. Love identifies us as belonging to the kingdom of God because that is the kingdom of love. That is the kingdom that God desires to establish on the earth. That was the purpose for which Jesus came; to remove everything that hinders people from being transformed into His nature of love. The one who went to seek three loaves from his friend late at night did not seek the loaves or anything for himself. He sought only 109.
