P. 148

KEEP THEM FROM EVIL answer to His prayer, knows that it is sufficiently composed to serve its purpose the way it is. When we pray after this manner, God understands exactly what we are asking for because we are following in obedience the steps of Christ and His teaching, and he would answer us speedily just as He answered Jesus. It is important in my view that we resist the temptation to think that the prayer point, constructed this way, is too short. It may be short but it addresses the issue of the evil one and is effective when used as counselled by the only wise God. It is important to resist the tendency to become like the Pharisees when we take steps to pray as Jesus taught us. Jesus warned us about praying after the manner of the Pharisees. He said that they like to pray long prayers, and often only end up making vain repetitions that add nothing to the prayers. Matthew 23:13-14 NKJV “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. \[14\] Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation. 145.
