P. 60

NEVERTHELESS, NOT AS I WILL Do you know that it is crucial to pray specifically that the will of God be done on the earth, and by implication, in our own lives? His will goes beyond our lives to cover His desire for all the people of the world. In a sense therefore, this prayer is special because it goes beyond His will being done in our own life. James told us that God only answers prayers that line up with His will. When we pray according to His will, He will answer. We don’t get answers to our prayers many times because our prayers neglect to desire and see His will done in our situations and circumstances. We do tend to get carried away a lot of times, crying to God for things that only minister to our carnal lusts, not minding whether they are in line with His will or not. Take a look at James 4:2-3, James 4:2-3 NKJV You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. \[3\] You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. One thing to take away from the encounter of Jesus and His subsequent resort to pray in the garden of Gethsemane is that in our journey of faith, it takes empowerment to do the will of God. We will come face to face with situations that challenge our resolve 57.
