NEVERTHELESS, NOT AS I WILL your own salvation with fear and trembling; \[13\] for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. By promptly resorting to pray ahead of the challenge coming before Him, Jesus took steps to ‘work out His own salvation,’ indeed, with fear and trembling. His prayer was earnest, deep- seated and heartfelt. It was a great temptation indeed, one that had to be won, if we weren’t to be doomed forever as men and women. But thanks be to God that Jesus was a man of great wisdom. It is our responsibility to ensure that we overcome everything and anything that challenges our salvation. We must stand to take responsibility in the same way that Jesus took responsibility. We must learn from His example and pray regularly that we be empowered to do His will always in the race of life. It is dangerous to ‘pass on’ doing His will at any time. An obedient walk is one that commits to and pursues doing the will of God every single time, indeed, as a matter of course in life. Don’t Wait Until You are Challenged! The example of Jesus, and indeed, the example of Peter and his colleagues, show us not to wait until trouble is at the door before we resort to pray. 59.
