DAY 5 ANTARCTIC PENINSULA

             FEB. 24, 2019

                                         The Antarctic Peninsula is the
                                         northernmost part of the mainland
of Antarctica. It is the largest, most
                                         prominent peninsula in Antarctica and
extends over 800 miles. Beneath the
ice sheet which covers it, the Peninsula
consists of a string of bedrock islands.
we are now about 620 miles away from
Tierra Del Fuego, the southernmost tip
                                         of South America. Antarctic Peninsula
                                         is dotted with numerous research
stations. This is also where tabular
                                         icebergs are more common. These
icebergs typically broke off from ice
shelves and have steep nearly vertical
sides, almost 90 degrees and have a
                                         flat plateau top.
