Prof Isaac Mapaure BIOGRAPHY
Professor of Ecology & Prof Isaac Mapaure is a full Professor in the Department of
Conservation Biology Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science at the University of
Faculty of Science Namibia (UNAM). He has close to three decades of research
University of Namibia in various countries in the region. His research focusses mainly
on terrestrial ecosystems with special interests in ecosystem
dynamics and functioning, disturbance ecology, climate
change, biodiversity conservation, wildlife ecology and
management, rangeland ecology and management,
and several other aspects of management of natural
resources.
He has published many journal articles in internationally
accredited journals, chapters in books and other pieces of
scholarly work. He has supervised many postgraduate and
undergraduate students in these research focus areas. He
was a short-term Visiting academic at University of Edinburgh
(UK), Norwegian University of Life Sciences (Norway)
and Macquarie University (Australia). Prof Mapaure held
some leadership positions of Deputy Dean of Faculty of
Science and UNAM Research Coordinator. He is a Fellow
of the College of Research Associates (CRA) of the United
Nations University – Institute for Natural Resources in Africa
(UNU-INRA). He received the Southern African Research &
Innovation Management Association (SARIMA) Award for
Distinguished Contribution to the Research Management
profession in southern Africa in 2015. Prof Mapaure is
collaborating with a number of local and international
researchers on various research projects investigating a
number of pertinent issues in savanna ecosystems in the
face of global change challenges.
