Science Honours degree in Physics (with a First Class) at the
University of Ife (now called Obafemi Awolowo University),

Prof James Akindele Oyedele Ile-Ife, Nigeria in 1972. He obtained his Master of Science
Professor of Physics degree in Physics in 1975 and a Doctorate (PhD) degree
in Physics in 1978 from McMaster University, Hamilton,
Department of Physics, Ontario, Canada. He carried out his postgraduate
University of Namibia experimental research work at the nuclear laboratories
Windhoek, Namibia of McMaster University and at the Chalk River nuclear

of his Professors and a mentor at McMaster University later
became a Nobel Laureate in Physics in 1994. Professor
Oyedele joined Obafemi Awolowo University in 1972 and
became a Full Professor at the University in 1991. He later
joined the University of Namibia (UNAM) and was the
Head of Physics Department for eleven years from January
2001 - December 2011. He is the UNAM representative at
the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) events in
Namibia. Also, he is the coordinator of the MSc Nuclear
                                                   Science Programme at UNAM.

Professor Oyedele has carried out numerous research
studies in radiation physics and related fields. He has
many publications in peer-reviewed international scientific
journals and has written university physics books. He
introduced nuclear physics in the Physics Department
of UNAM and developed a teaching and research
laboratory for radiation physics. He has received Letters of
Commendation from UNAM’s Vice Chancellor and from
