John Parker was an American abolit ionist , iron molder,
indust rialist and invent or. Parker, who was African American,
assist ed hundreds of slaves t o freedom t hrough t he
Underground Railroad Resist ance movement , which was based
in Ripley, Ohio.
He rescued and saved fugit ive slaves for almost 15 years.
His house in Ripley has now been designat ed as a rest ored,
Nat ional Hist oric Landmark.
