I really like decorative knots, particularly those
where there is no other obvious purpose to them.
Purely decorative knots are ideally used wherever
there is a need for embellishment. The following
selection of decorative knots has no other purpose
than this. They do not serve to hide a junction
(although they may be used for that purpose), they
do not serve to add strength or utility, and they
have no other practical purpose. Some would say
that the Chinese knots later in this book are purely
decorative, but those knots can also tell a story,
which is a very practical use indeed. In this chapter
are knots for which no other purpose exists than to
bring beauty.
