1 Turn the outer yarns of the rope down out of 3 apply three or four turns of marline or other
grafting insert cord, then use a Half Hitch to
the way. Be sure to keep an even number of
outer yarns, because we will split them, one up
(or forward-facing) position. These are now
and one down, after the next step. secure one half of the outer yarns in an upward
your upper yarns. Use another Half Hitch to
secure the other half of the outer yarns in the
same upward position. repeat, making sure to
alternate the groups of yarns. when you reach
the end of the rope, make a snaked whipping
around the last fibres to ensure that the end
does not fray. if you use an odd number of warp
cords you will not need to alternate the upper
and lower yarns.
2 Using a knife, either scrape or cut away only the
inner yarns to a taper and cover with canvas or
friction tape, as here.
