This form of braid is the one you remember from 4 – repeating stage 2 over

three-strand braids
from the right…
your time as a child, when your, your sister’s, or a
favourite relative’s hair was ‘done up’ in a braid.
Split your three strands into even-bulk groups or, if
using cords, three cords laid alongside each other.
Ribbons must be laid flat and so are usually sewn
to something else temporarily. The three strands
are laid out with one in the centre and one to each
side. Here are some photographs of the process of
braiding by passing the cords over from the front.
You can also braid by passing the cords under from
behind, as shown in the second set, which just
produces the back of the first set. 5 – and again over from the
First set (set 1): left.
