Four-strand braids
This form of braid starts with two strands on each
side of centre. It makes no difference to the final
piece whether or not you start with two of the
same or two different colours on either side – the
end result will look the same. Having decided
what colours you want, set up your braid-clamping
attachment with the strands firmly gripped. From
this point it is usual to braid from behind, but you
may also try braiding from the front. Note that
this braid is very similar to the four-strand sinnet
(described in Chapter 5), but the action required to 3 Cross the far left cord over the left-most arm

braid also usually ends up being a little looser than
the sinnet. Try to keep even tension on both sets of
cords so that you produce a nice regular braid. Finer
cords will also help!
