Gongsaeng Won (the place of cohabitation) began in 1928 when Evangelist Yun Chi-ho lived
with seven children wandering the streets because they had nothing to eat. Later, during
the Korean War, 500 children who had nowhere to go lived together at Gongsaeng Wong
and they were raised by the sacrifice and love of Yun Chi-ho and his wife, Yun Hak-sa,
a Japanese woman. Gongsaeng Won literally means ‘living together.’ So far, about 3,700
children have grown up here and became the members of society. The two took care of the
children at Gongsaeng Won and practiced Jesu’ love throughout their lives.
Evangelist Yun was also a nationalist with a strong national spirit who was taken, detained,
and tortured 48 times during the Japanese colonial period. At that time, Korean Churches
succumbed to the Japanese oppression and decided to allow the shrine visit. However, he
refused to visit the shrine and was arrested by the Japanese police. He is evaluated as a rare
person who kept the truth of faith and the national spirit to the end.
Mokpo people consider former President Kim Dae Jung, poet Kim Ji-ha, and singer Lee
Nan-young as great people produced by their hometown. In addition, they remember
Yun Chi-ho and Yun Hak-sa, who devotedly cared for war orphans, as beautiful people of Yeongam Eup Church

than 40 war orphans.
