the Sukkah could be slept in, but there is an external
reason that draws the person to sleep at home, then
the Sukkah is Kosher. Therefore, the exemptions of
husband and wife, and also the concern of robbery do
not render the Sukkah invalid, since they are external
reasons and the Sukkah as it is is perfectly worthy of
sleeping.
The second rule is that even if the Sukkah is unworthy
of sleeping in it at all, (for example in extremely cold
climates) if there is no other choice, then the Sukkah
is still Kosher. The logic behind this is that the Torah
commanded that the Sukkah replace our homes,
and when a person builds his home he looks for the
best place to position it. However, if everywhere in
the vicinity there is a certain discomfort, then there
is no choice but to suffer the discomfort. Similarly,
only if there was an option to build the Sukkah in a
place or way that would prevent the discomfort then
the Sukkah is invalid, but if there was no choice, it is
still Kosher. In the places that it is too cold to sleep at
night, due to the fact that the entire area has no better
place to build the Sukkah, the Sukkah is kosher for
eating and drinking.
According to these two rules, all of the reasonings
that we brought for the exemption to sleep outside
the Sukkah do not render the Sukkah invalid, and still
render the sukkah kosher regarding either usage.
