Sleeping in the sukkah

Shulchan Aruch – one may not sleep outside the sukkah or even take a short nap out of the sukkah

Rema – the custom in Ashkenazic regions was to be lenient and not sleep in the sukkah. However,
where possible one should sleep in the sukkah

A mitztaer (person who is extremely uncomfortable in the sukkah) is exempt from the mitzvah

Yalkut Yosef – a person who might catch a cold due to the extreme weather is included in this
definition. However one should try and build a sukkah in a way that protects one from the elements,
such as by bringing in blankets and electric heaters

Piskei Teshuvot – there is no obligation to bring in electric heaters, etc. in order to sleep in the
sukkah. Nevertheless, this has always been the practice of the righteous
