Rema: …some say it is due to the cold, etc. There is no halachic obligation to perform unusual actions in order to
sleep in the sukkah when it is cold, such as bringing in an electric heater. However, it has been the custom of the
righteous throughout the generations to do everything in their power in order to sleep in the sukkah, and every
person should learn from them how they sacrificed in order to sleep in the sukkah. Certainly in our times, where
it is much easier to make a sukkah that one can sleep in comfortably, one should not try and avoid fulfilling this
mitzvah, as one who nullifies this mitzvah receives a severe punishment (Responsa Min Hashamayim of R.
Yitzchak of Korbiel), and this refers even to regarding nullifying part of the mitzvah.
