in accordance with the minimum measure on the other days of Sukkot

            - some hold that one must eat a k’zayit of bread in the sukkah in contrast to the other days of
                Sukkot
            - some hold that one is obligated to eat in the sukkah even if it is raining

Shulchan Aruch – one must need a k’zayit in the sukkah on the first night

Rema – one must wait until it is definitely nightfall to eat and one must eat before midnight, similar
to the laws of eating matzah on the Seder night

Mishna Berura – one should eat more than a k’beitza of bread to satisfy the opinions of the other
        Rishonim

Yechaveh Daat – one should preferably eat a k’zayit of bread by itself, but if it is eaten together with
other foods, one has fulfilled one’s obligation according to the basic law

What happens if it is raining on the first night?

Rema – one must eat a k’zayit of bread in the sukkah, even if it is raining (the Shulchan Aruch does
not mention this, implying that he disagrees)

Aruch Hashulchan – one must eat in the sukkah even if it is raining, but doesn’t need to sleep there

Mishna Berura – one should satisfy the other opinions that one is exempt when raining. Therefore,
once the rain stops, one should eat again in the sukkah, at least slightly more than a k’beitza. Howev-
er, if one has already gone to bed and wakes up to find it has stopped raining, one need not return to
        the sukkah

Biur HaGra – the reason one has to return to the sukkah is because when it was raining the sukkah
lost its status as a viable sukkah. According to this understanding, even if one woke in the middle of
the night, one would have to return to the sukkah if it stopped raining

The definition of permitted achilat ara’i (snacking) outside the sukkah

Shulchan Aruch – a k’beitza of bread, and any amount of fruit and drinks

Rema – even if one designated a meal over these things it is permitted to eat them out of the sukkah

Mishna Berura – the ruling of the Shulchan Aruch includes even eating meat, fish and cheese out-
        side of the sukkah
