        His bread fell from his mouth  – [And therefore] he must be  .קזיהמ םויה גאדל ךירצ – ויפמ הלפנ ותפ
        cautious today about harm.
                                                             ןמיס – ולאמשמ לעוש וא ונימימ אב שחנ
        A snake appeared to his right, or a fox to his left – It is a bad omen.   .ול אוה ער
        A deer stopped him – He was walking from east to west and a deer   ,ברעמל חרזממ ךלוה היהש – וקיספה יבצ
        walked from north to south and crossed his path.     .וכרד קיספהו ,םורדל ןופצמ ךלוה יבצהו

        Do not start with me – When the tax collector comes to collect   סמ תובגל יאבגה אבשכ – יב ליחתת לא
        taxes from him, or the officer of the city [comes], one says to him:   השקבב :ול רמוא ,ריעה תציק וא ונממ
        Please don’t start with me to be the first regarding a matter of loss,    רבדב ןושאר תויהל יב ליחתת לא ךממ
        as this is a bad omen for him [for the future].                .ול אוה ער ןמיסש ,דספה
        It is morning – He was claiming a debt from him, and he said: It is   ,בוח  ונממ  עבות  היהש  –  אוה  תירחש
        morning, and I don’t [want to] start the day with an act of repayment.  תלחת ליחתא אלו ,אוה תירחש :ול רמא
        It is the New Moon – Wait for me until tomorrow.                   .ןועריפב םויה השעמ
                                                                .רחמ דע יל ןתמה – אוה שדח שאר
        It is the conclusion of Shabbat – It is the first day of the week.
                                                             .עובשה ימיל ןושאר – אוה תבש יאצומ
        Those who divine – Before they leave on a journey or start with    וא ךרדל ןיאצוישכ – ןישחנמה
        anything [new].
                                                                         .רבד םושב ןיליחתמשכ

        The Shulchan Aruch quotes these examples as halacha as well.

        One who says:  My bread fell from my mouth, or my staff [fell]   וא ,ידימ ילקמ וא ,יפמ הלפנ יתפ :רמואה

        from my hand, or my son called me from behind, or a deer stopped   ,ךרדב וקיספה יבצש וא ,ירחאמ יל ארוק ינב
        me on my way, or a snake appeared to my right or a fox to my left;    ,ולאמשמ לעוש וא ונימימ שחנ רבעש וא
        and if one of these events happened to him  he divines it as an omen    ונממ  השוע  ולאמ  דחא  ול  עריאש  ימלו
        not to continue his journey or not to start a job; similarly, one who    ליחתהל אלש וא ךרדל תאצל אלש שוחינ
        divines using the weasel or birds or stars; and one who says: Do not    תופועבו הדלוחב םישחנמה ןכו ,הכאלמב
        start to collect [taxes]; it is morning; Motzai Shabbat, or the end of
        Rosh Chodesh [the New Moon]… it is prohibited…       תובגל  ליחתת  לא  :רמואה  ןכו  ,םיבכוכבו
                                                             יאצומ ,אוה תבש יאצומ ,אוה תירחש ,ינממ

        2.   Commentaries dispute whether this prohibition applies only where the person actually made such a statement verbally, as the formulation of the
           Shulchan Aruch might indicate (which is based on the Gemara), or whether it applies even to one who mentally has such thoughts in mind without
           verbalizing them. The Shiltei Giborim (Sanhedrin 16b) takes the former approach, while the Pitchei Teshuva (Y.D. 179:3) derives from Tosafot
           (Bava Metzia 27b) that it is still prohibited even if one acts this way without verbalizing the thoughts.
