Building Community One Book at a Time – Grades K to 12
What it is
A literacy initiative that provides students
an opportunity to read and experience Sponsored by school divisions, schools,
the same books so as to build a sense individual classrooms and/or organizations
of community and camaraderie.
Why BookConnect?
• Brings school and students together through shared literary experiences.
• Allows schools to provide customized recommendations for their students
that address their unique and specific needs and concerns.
• Creates an opportunity for students to explore their own thoughts, concerns, and dreams.
• Provides students a forum and an opportunity to share views, feelings
and opinions with their families, teachers, and peers.
• Offers an equitable experience that may be used to benefit all students.
• Gives students a chance to experience hope, joy and comfort and be positively engaged.
When schools, parents, families, and
communities work together to support
learning, students tend to earn higher grades,
attend school more regularly, stay in school
longer, and enroll in higher level programs.
