Buena Vista Conference Center

Location: New Castle, Delaware

Design Statement: This historic mansion, built in 1845,
serves as a Conference Center for the State of Delaware
Division of Historical & Cultural Affairs. It is one of the
main venues for political functions in Delaware and is
utilized by state and local agencies, elected officials and
non-profit organizations for state functions, training
seminars, educational programs, and conferences.

The restoration plans as prepared by Bernardon and Frens
and Frens LLC Restoration Architects answered the design
challenge of maintaining the historic value and character
of the building while incorporating enhanced accessibility
and state-of-the-art audio and video capabilities that will
carry the conference center well into the next century. improved visitor wayfinding and circulation for the
existing conference and reception/banquet functions,
Bernardon also prepared construction documents for including improved parking and vehicular circulation, and
a Master Plan consisting of over 6,000 SF of hardscape, accommodating a wider range of events and recreational
exterior lighting, and associated landscaping. This uses such as trails and environmental education.
