Chester County Public Safety Training Facility

            Location: South Coatesville, Pennsylvania

Design Statement: This project fulfilled a longstanding
need for dedicated emergency services personnel training
in Chester County. The program included the adaptive
reuse of an existing building to provide the needed facility,
including training rooms that could accommodate 30, 40,
            50 and 80 people each.

Bernardon’s design solution included training rooms
with capacities of 30, 40, and 50, which were successfully
integrated into the structural bays of the existing
building. A movable partition was then designed between
two adjacent training rooms to allow for the requested
80-person training room. The design team also worked
closely with the client to integrate the desired audio-visual
            and voice-data features.
A main design feature is the use of a salvaged steel beam to the visitor entering the building. The position allows for
from the tragic events on September 11, 2001 in New York the experience of circulating around and contemplating all
at the World Trade Center. The steel is presented directly aspects of the steel.
