Theme of The Year
The Child is father of the Man
Just as the morning shows the day, childhood shows the man. It expresses the idea that the
character that we form as children stays with us into our adult life. Naturally what a child
learns and assimilates will be reflected in his words and work as an adult. The child is the seed
from which will emerge the adult. Children symbolize our present and the adult represents
the future which implies that our present creates our future.
The theme 'The Child is father of the Man” from the famous poem, "My Heart Leaps Up,"
also known as "The Rainbow" by William Wordsworth, which means that an adult is the
product of his habits and behaviour developed during childhood.
It implies that a child enters this world full of wonder ready to accept everything that the
home, the school and the society provides. Therefore, it is very important to enrich the
childhood of our children with iconic role models. The experiences of childhood will be
reflected in the adult he will grow up to be. The child should be immersed in values, joyful
learning and an understanding of differences so he imbibes qualities of empathy and respect.
