O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.
PSALM 136:1
It was a blessed Wednesday morning at about 10.30am when a beautiful baby girl was born to proud parents the late Alfred and Hattie Smith, their fifth child and third daughter to whom they gave the name Eliza Alvisa. She was loved daily by all her siblings being the last child for over 17 years, until her mother gave her, her last sibling Brenda Adell when she (Eliza) was 18 years old.
Eliza started her formal education at the tender age of five. She attended the Bottle Creek All Age School, now known Adelaide Oemler Primary School in Bottle Creek, North Caicos until the age of 14, where she obtained her education, under the tutorship of Mr Raymond Gardiner. Eliza was a very obedient and hardworking child.
Liza as she was affectionately called, was always busy with her hands making things so she started making stuff from sisal, and baking bread for the community. Years later Liza being the hard working person that she was and who always wanted to be successful took up the calling as a seamstress. She would stitch for family and friends until she began to do it for a living, her work included making clothing for weddings, pageants and upholstery.
In 1967 a fine gentleman by the name of Erlin Wendall Pratt visited beautiful Bottle Creek, North Caicos where he was captivated by the grace, elegance and beauty of Eliza, so he pursued her relentlessly while she continued to blush and enjoy the dating period. When he asked her to marry him she knew that he was her Boaz as she had already had dialogue with her Lord, and she answered, ‘Yes I will’. On January 26th, 1969 they were joined in holy matrimony at the Jericho Baptist Church in The Bight, Providenciales.
