On June 24th Eliza and her two daughters were at Tekora’s house just conversing when out of the blue Eliza said she wanted to see her husband. Tekora then replied, ‘Why? Lets just continue to dwell on his loving memories as you are here with us and not going anywhere’. She replied that she was aware of where she was going. She then said she wanted to go and look at his tomb. Tekora again asked why. Eliza replied, ‘To make sure all is well, and everything is in place. It was a different day from the usual Fridays.
Eliza, Shirnay & the kids left Tekora’s home at about 7pm and went home. Eliza was in her sound mind and good health.
At about eight oclock Saturday morning on 25th June Eliza got up to use the bathroom and complained to have lost her balance and fallen. It was difficult getting her up. Shirnay quickly realized that this fall was different as she was unable to lift Eliza on her own or with the children’s assistance so she called for help. Nalbert came and helped to get Mom from the floor. Shirnay realized Mom was in a lot of pain and that her hip and leg area was beginning to swell. Shirnay called the ambulance and Eliza was taken to the Cheshire Medical Centre where she was x-rayed. It was discovered that Mom had broken her right hip and would need to do major surgery. On Sunday 26th June
her daughters met with the doctor and were told that Mom would have to be sent overseas for further medical attention and they were awaiting the response of nhip. On Monday June 27th it was confirmed that Eliza would be going to Jamaica that afternoon. She was airlifted at about 6.30pm, accompanied by her daughter Tekora, to Jamaica and admitted to the Tony Thwaites wing of the University of the West Indies hospital. Eliza obtained medical care from the best nurses, doctors and caretakers that could ever
be given. Tekora, Eliza and Shirnay would sing and pray daily together before Tekora would say goodnight to go home, Eliza would always briskly say, ‘See you in the morning. I
will be waiting for you’.
On 6th July 2022 Eliza was able to get clearance for surgery. At about 5pm Tekora walked with the nurses as far as the theatre doors and was not allowed any further. She then kissed Mom and told her that Jesus is the great physician. Eliza replied, ‘Yes please
tell all my children, and family that I love them’. That was the hardest time for Tekora. She waited until 3am waiting and praying for a response from the doctors. At that time the nurse advised her to go home and come early the next morning. It was such a relief at 6:30 am when the care taker called and there was Mom on the other end of the phone saying hey nay mommy loves you.
I am doing good and feeling just fine. Tekora assured her that she would see her soon and she did. At 8am on 7th July she went to the hospital to spend the day with her mom. She spent twelve hours that day at the hospital with mom.
On Friday 8th July Tekora told Eliza she was getting some grits and other items from the Turks and Caicos.
