raved about her love for fashion and dressing up, most notably her signature hat-wearing ensembles. Mimi was a Christian woman who emphasized the importance of strong faith and trusting in the Lord. One of her caretakers often joked that God must have been her only friend, because every proud, happy, sad, exciting moment always followed with an “Oh Lord!”...
“When I go, yinn’a aint gon’ have sense to know!” A TIME TO TRANSITION
In 2019, she would become very ill and was flown to the Dominican Republic accompanied by her daughter, Judy for extensive medical attention. This was the beginning of health issues for an otherwise,
very healthy and vibrant Mimi. Her children, Peter and Kay would
receive her in Santiago where she would remain for a few months. Her doctors would relay that she would need further treatment, which would limit her usually active, daily routine, however, if you knew her, then you knew that this was not to be. As soon as she was released and reunited with her family, she would request that a bench be built under her dilly tree so that she’d be able to enjoy the outdoors. During the next few years, she enjoyed her family and friends, often inviting them to sit under the tree and talk with her, with her famous line “Come le’ me and you talk!”.
It was in 2021, when her health would take another drastic turn. She suffered a stroke in October and although she had many highs, her lows were consistently present. She suffered another stroke after being flown to the Dominican Republic for a second time, shortly thereafter, she lost her independence and was unable to move around the way she once did. She spent a year at the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre, gaining a host of friends in the caretakers assigned to her. After an extended hospital stay, she returned home to the nurturing care of her immediate family and caretakers. However, a full recovery was
not to be. She would fall asleep on the afternoon of March 22nd, 2024, where she would make a quiet and peaceful, yet unexpected transition into eternity. In the last few years, Mimi experienced significant losses within her family circle, and as she knew she was getting older and losing
the strength and vibrancy she once had, she would often joke to her immediate family...” When I go, yinn’a aint gone have sense to know!”... a promise fulfilled! An unexpected, impactful and profound loss for all!
