Courtney M. Missick, the activist, came of age in 2009 over two controversial issues in North Caicos. In the case of the leasing of the Belfield Landing Dock domestic area by the government of the day, Courtney travelled to Grand Turk unprompted to make representation on the issue to Governor Wetherall which result in the eventual termination of the lease with the then ownership of Caribbean Cruising. To solidify the position of fishermen in North Caicos, Courtney organized the first North Caicos Fisherman’s Association and being elected president, they drafted the letter to the Governor to stop the lease agreement. The second occasion was with the proposed sale of the Kew Farm to the Developers of Delis Cay, Courtney spoke out to help stop the injustice that was to take place against the people of North Caicos.
In 2010, the opportunity to represent his people on a national stage on the Consultative Forum arose and Courtney seized the chance and gave voice to the voiceless, most notably on the issues of Constitutional Reform, Immigration, and Crown Land Policy, serving for two years. While still on the forum in 2011, Courtney began ‘Talk Dat’ with then Co-Host Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson which was developed in tandem with Mrs Rose Higgs as a Talk Show on PTV. Using this new platform, Courtney has pushed and advocated for various issues of national importance for the last ten years.
Now, Courtney seeks your support to take his activism to the next level in the political arena. With continued dedication, passion, and patriotism, he is committed to taking the same style of representation to the House of Assembly, so that he can continue feeding and representing our country.
