On the road with… Katherine Ryan

■ The Canadian comedian on her links to Cork and why Britain has the worst
food in the world — except for one redeeming vegetable
What is your favourite on-the-road moment?
I did a show in Bristol where Banksy had just done a painting of the Queen on the
wall next to the venue. The whole town was excited and when I was told about it
during my show I made everyone go outside with me and look at it. I was there again
the following year and this guy had taken a picture of me with the Banksy, printed it
on a pillow, then gave it to me as a gift, which was so cool.
What’s your favourite city?
I don’t often spend the night in a town I’m doing a gig in but I did in Poole. The
people were friendly, I strolled along the lovely high street, watched a parade and
had breakfast at a café by the waterfront. Two years later, when I did Who Do You
Think You Are?, I actually found out I’ve got ancestors from there. I don’t know
whether I could live there but I liked it a lot.
