Many clubs in the peninsula get together to do joint Tonnes of tins
projects. Here are a few examples…
Rotary Clubs around Torbay –
Trekking, and trekking Preston, Torquay, Brixham,
Paignton, Babbacombe & St
The Rotary Clubs of Ilfracombe and Ilfracombe Compass Marychurch, and Torbay
organised a mammoth “Startrekker” event on Exmoor, with 48 Sunrise repeated their annual
teams of walkers setting off from Brendon Barton Farm at dusk in supermarket tin collection for
March, and they have netted a staggering £35,000 for local charities. the Anode food bank.
The winners of the full trek, some 16 miles long, were Pludd Although it coincided with the
Prodders team, with “Map What Map” winning the half-trek and Torbay Air Show (June11) and
“Norfolk Enchants”, of the Pack of Cards, Combe Martin, winning the had to use fewer venues, over

who said “Thank you to all of
you and those in your clubs
who helped in the collections.”
The main beneficiaries were Children’s Hospice South West and Picture shows the Co-op store in St
North Devon Hospice, both of which received £9,000, and Devon Marychurch, where Torbay Sunrise
Freewheelers blood bike service, which received £3,000 (see picture
above). Other charities benefiting were Ilfracombe RNLI, Amigos Rotarians and their friends were
Worldwide, Over and Above, and Multiple Sclerosis. collecting for Anode.
