This 1946 aerial view of Olympia is looking northeast, and was taken by aerial photographer Leonard Delano of Portland. Landmarks

include: Olympia’s National Guard Armory on Eastside Street (the white building with dark roof, just above and to the right of center);

the Washington School, which currently houses the Esther Knox Administrative Building and the Avanti High School (just to the right

of the Armory); and rows of sweetgum and oak trees on each side of Legion (those trees are now stately giants; see

upper left where it becomes East Bay Drive and disappears off the edge of the photo. 5
