My name is Lance Caswell. I’m a sophomore in high school. I like to fish and Hi, my name is Connor. I am 13 years old and I live in Ann Arbor, MI. I love to
hunt outside. I like to play tennis. I like volunteering. I also like being at home play sports, hang out with my friends, and travel. I was diagnosed with Type
watching TV or reading a book. I have two dogs. I have two brothers as well. 1 Diabetes when I was 6 years old, but that hasn’t stopped me one bit. I’ve
T1D Impact: I wish that people knew that my diabetes is a constant in my life. played baseball, basketball, soccer, football, and tennis.
Diabetes is part of my identity. It’s something that I cannot simply take a break
from or ignore. Even when I tell someone I have diabetes, they don’t under- My walk team, Team Rzeszut, has raised over $50,000 for JDRF. One week
stand its true nature and impact on my life. every summer, my brother and I mow lawns with all of the proceeds going to
JDRF. This year we mowed 63 lawns and raised over $2,300! Thank you for

Avery Dreffs Bella Downey

Avery is a hard-working girl with a positive attitude. She has been a compet- Hi, my name is Bella Downey. I’ve been dealing with T1D for two years now.
itive dancer for 6 yrs. Upon diagnosis, Avery vowed not to let diabetes hold I feel like i’ve learned a lot about how to manage this disease. But, it is hard
her back and she has worked every day to keep that promise. She loves pro- sometimes still. I sing, do cheerleading, and act in plays. I want to be a
moting awareness of diabetes at school and taking newly diagnosed children youth ambassador to meet other kids with T1D. I love all of the things that
under her wing. She loves meeting new people, especially others with T1D. JDRF is doing to find a cure.
Avery loved being an ambassador last year and is hoping to do even more if
