Air Pollution at Sketty Primary School

Year 5 learners at Sketty

Primary School, Swansea

investigated air pollution

in and around the school,
particularly associated with

idling cars.

They hunted around the

school grounds looking for

different types of lichen,

learning that these can be used as an indicator of the levels of air
pollution, and made some predictions about the air quality around the

school.

Air pollution monitors were then used to test their predictions. A
creative task was then set to design an anti-idling poster, with the

winning design made into a banner to be displayed outside the school.
