Who was he?
Herbert Marshall McLuhan is often considered the father of media theory. He was a Canadian professor, philosopher, and public intellectual. His work is the cornerstone of media theory. It is also invaluable for the study of technology and society.
McLuhan is known for coining the expression ”the medium is the message” and the term “global village.” He predicted the World Wide Web 30 years before it was invented and was a fixture in media discourse in the late 60s.
His groundbreaking work Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man (1964) change public discourse on media and its impact both individually and societally.
