SOIL APPLICATION RESEARCH PROJECT
This summer, the Soil Application Research Program will track the effects of fertilizer, compost, and the novel soil
amendment known as “Precision Organics Test Product” (POTP) on the growth of river birch trees and swamp white oak
trees growing on Providence Academy’s property. Additionally, participants will evaluate how these affect aspects of soil
chemistry and soil biology. Students participating in the program will engage in multiple phases of the scientific research
process, including experimental design, data collection and statistical analysis. Research will be conducted by Dr. Yvonne
Boldt, in partnership with Dr. John Lloyd of Precision Organics. Our interest in this project is to examine how fertilizers,
composts, and other products, impact soil microbes, and how these products impact the quality of soils for growing
flowers, trees, and vegetables in urban landscapes.
