The Hulu Terengganu District was proven to be the earliest location to accept the Islamic Religion in the
Malay Land Peninsula according to records on the Inscripted Stones (Batu Bersurat) of Terengganu dated
1303 M (702 H) found in Kampung Buloh, Hulu Terengganu. In addition, the Hulu Terengganu District had
been both a place of interest and where the scholars had taken residence as proven with the findings of
ancient tombs like the Tomb of Tok Raja Ri in Kampung Kuala Por, Tomb of Tok Pauh in Kampung Pauh,
Tomb of Tok Gajah in Kampung Pasir Nering, Tomb of Tok Berlian Mahmud in Kampung Kemat, Tomb of Tun
Indera in Kampung Kuala Por and Tomb of Sharif Mohammad al-Baghdadi in Kampung Jenagor.
