Shea Oelfke,
Assistant Manager B&G
Tell me a little about how you started with Loram, how did you hear about the job,
which positions you’ve held?
I started with Loram shortly after my first job out of college. I worked as a sales manager for an insurance company
after I graduated from UWSP. I absolutely hated it and googled labor. Loram was the first thing that popped up so I
applied. I started as a GL in 2012 on SBC26 in Glacier National Park. I quickly moved through the machine positions
and was made superintendent on SBC24 in 2014. I ran 24 for a couple years and applied for the assistant manager
job when it came up. This is my 5 season as an AM.
th
What do you enjoy most about working at Loram?
The people. I enjoy the relationships I have with the superintendents, crews and the customers. The other best thing
would be the country and countries I have been able to visit because of Loram. I would wager that those of us who
have spent 5 or more years on the road with Loram see more country than most will in a lifetime.
What is your favorite memory from this past year?
2021 was a particularly challenging year. Working in Cloquet, MN was pretty sweet. I didn’t realize the amount of
iron ore mined in Minnesota was so massive.
Where is your hometown and what is the best thing about it?
Edina, MN. The cake is pretty good.
Do you have any hobbies? What’s your favorite thing to do when you are on time off?
Bowling, axe throwing, darts and game night with my girlfriend Lauren. I also enjoy hunting in the fall or any other
outdoor activity.
What is something about yourself that would surprise your coworkers?
I was once ranked in the top 10k of Call of Duty players.
What is the biggest challenge you face on the road and how does it affect your life?
How do you deal with it?
Being away from my girlfriend and family. I have been on the road most my life, I don’t know anything different so it’s
hard and it can be difficult. One piece of advice would be to have things with you to help make it easier. I have a
framed picture I keep in my hotel room. I bring stuff with to cook food so I’m not just eating crap from the gas sta-
tion or microwave stuff. Anything you can put in your hotel room to make it feel more like home helps me.
