SPOTLIGHT ON DC1
September’s spotlight is on Delmas Porter, Crew Chief of DC1. Delmas’s original hire date at Loram is June 2015.
Where is your hometown and what is the best thing
about your hometown? Milton, WV. The best thing about
it is the small-town community.
What are the advantages to living in a small-town com-
munity? Living in a small town is nice because everything is
at a slower pace. People take time to get to know their
neighbors. No one is in a hurry to go anywhere.
What is your favorite memory from this past year and
why? Honestly this year hasn't been very memorable. With
COVID its difficult to make memories.
How has COVID changed your job? It has changed be-
cause of the restrictions everywhere. Remaining compliant
and just wearing a mask and trying to distance from other
people when I go to stores.
What is your favorite thing about working at Loram? Being able to travel different places.
What has been your favorite location and why? Alaska has been my favorite so far. The scenery and wildlife and the
people were nice; maybe not southern nice but a lot nicer than a lot of places I’ve been.
Do you have any hobbies? My hobbies are working on engines and being outdoors.
Your hobbies are working on engines – what engines? It doesn’t matter on the engines, I’ll work on anything from a
lawnmower to a V8.
What’s your favorite thing to do on your time off? Hunting and fishing or just being outdoors with my family.
What is your favorite food at the fast food store? I would have to say a cheeseburger and my favorite restaurant on
the road is Culvers.
How do you pass time when you get a day
off? Relaxing.
What’s the best advice you were given?
Who was it from? Don’t be afraid to make a
mistake, it's part of the learning process. I can’t
remember who told me that but it stuck with
me.
What advice would you give a new employ-
ee at Loram? Learn everything you can. Ask a
lot of questions and like I was told don’t be
afraid to make a mistake.
