Thomas Kitchens

         Superintendent, RV1

Tell me a little more about how you started with Lo-
ram, how did you hear about the job, which positions
          you’ve held?
After working 31 years in the Oil Industry, I was offered retirement
and I took a couple years off. I was on Facebook and saw where they
had railroad jobs available in my area. I applied and went through the
process. April 2019 I started out on RV14 as a General Laborer for a
couple weeks before the machine went to Canada. Then I transferred
to RV1 and worked there for a year, being moved up to Operator-1.
The next move was to RV2 where I stayed for about 9 months and
was promoted to an Operator-2. The next move was for an open
position for a Crew Chief, and I came back to RV1. Today I am still
on RV1 as was promoted to Superintendent December 2021.

What do you enjoy most about working at Loram?
Different people from different places. I enjoy and like to meet
new people and like to interact on different jobs.

What is your favorite memory from this past year?

My son gave us a strong, healthy grandson last August. Nothing
          like grandkids.
                                                                             Pictured above Thomas Kitchens

Where is your hometown and what is the best thing about it?
My hometown is in the Deep South. I was born and raised in Sumrall, Mississippi. I lived there for 26 years on the
Old Family Farm. Then I met my Wife and moved to Purvis, Mississippi and have been there for 30 years.

Do you have any hobbies? What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re on time off?
My hobbies have always been Rodeo and Dirt Car Racing. When I get time off away from home or at home, I try to
go to one of these sporting events. Up until I started working with Loram I did some Kart Racing myself. I had 3 dif-
ferent Karts and traveled through the Southern States Racing and meeting new people. You only live once, get out
and enjoy life to the fullest.

What is something about yourself that would surprise your coworkers?
I would say that that I raced Karts for about 10 years. I would also say that I am young at heart and like pretty much
everything. I’m a devoted father, husband, and grandfather. Family is always first.
