OPERATIONS UPDATES
Robert Maddox Continued
What is the biggest challenge you face on the road and how does it affect your life? How do you
deal with it?
The mental stress of not being physically present for my kids. We video call, send messages, and try our best to make
it work. Relationships are built from proximity and intensity, so we put more effort into intensity.
What is the best advice anyone has given you, and who was it from?
What comes to mind isn’t really advice, but it prompted me to see the potential in questioning. It’s valuable to accept
certain things as they are, but above all more interesting to ask, “what if”.
“Is all that we see or seem, but a dream within a dream?” – E.A. Poe.
What advice would you give a new employee at Loram?
Learn patience, have humility in aspects that are new to you, listen and absorb as much as you can, and keep your
head in the game. Also, learn what “reply all” means, then avoid it.
How do you pass time when you get a day off?
I catch up with my wife and the kids. Watch shows, do laundry, and enjoy the lull.
What has been your favorite city you have been to while working at Loram and why?
Mexico City, MX. The history, architecture, people, and seeing the pyramids at Teotihuacan.
Railroading was in Robert’s blood at a
young age!
