SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH
Robert Maddox, Assistant Manager,
Specialized Maintenance
Tell me a little more about how you started with Loram, how did
you hear about the job, which positions you’ve held?
I started working at Loram in 2011. During an interview with another compa-
ny, I walked out after hearing that I was guaranteed to be laid off after training.
From there, I started searching for other rail companies and kept coming
across Loram. I applied, interviewed and was offered a position on-the-spot. I
started as a General Labor on the Rail Train under Pat Gallagher and Calvin
Claxton. After a time, I was promoted to Crew Chief. While Rail Train con-
tracts were winding down, I applied for a Rail Inspection Superintendent posi-
tion under Brian Koch and Troy Kempel. I spent years, learning the ins and
outs of Rail Grinding application and theory until I moved up again to Assistant
Manager, Specialized Maintenance.
What do you enjoy most about working at Loram?
One aspect that sticks out is the culture of career mobility. If you’re capable
and motivated, you really can go anywhere in this company.
What is your favorite memory from this past year?
That would have to go to my first son being born.
Where is your hometown and what is the best thing about it?
I’m a transplant. Grew up in Greenwood, IN and now live in Wappapello, MO.
The lake, parks, beaches, trails, and lack of neighbors are what make it the
“best” for me.
Do you have any hobbies?
I’ve been a guitarist since 14, read when not listening to audio books, and generally take an educational interest in
anything that peaks my intrigue.
What is something about yourself that would surprise your coworkers?
I was once in an established black-metal band and an “emo” band at the same time.
