RGT’S Continued
from China), RGM hydraulic power unit,
RG400 series full PLC control system, RGS
manifolds, a John Deere 210KW generator,
and a Western Star 525 HP Detroit hooked
into an Eaton 10 speed manual. It has been
running 18mph in reverse and a touch fast-
er going forward. It took one heck of a
team to put all these systems together and
make them play nice with each other. The
RGT01 machine was completed on time miracu-
lously with SpecSys doing the assembly and
lots of fabrication. We then went to work
on the customer’s property.
That first year we put on some 36k miles in travel and ground out numerous SSCs, saving around 17-20 miles of rail
replacement. It was at this point we felt we had a really strong product, so we moved on to making the improved,
purpose built, RGT02 and RGT03. We took all we had learned on RGT01 and applied it to making the best version
of this product. Including but not limited to full shrouds, dust, full power, automatic transmissions, you name it. Any-
thing that was an annoyance on RGT01 we improved it. Now, not only is it the same functional beast of RGT01 but
it also has “the look” as you can see below.
The RGT platform, has come a long way
from the drawings that were shown first.
RGT02 We have had support from all depart-
ments at Loram. I know this is a danger-
ous alley, but I am going to name some of
the ones that helped me the most along
the way. If I forgot you catch up with me
and I will buy you dinner. From Market-
ing Bill Walls, Ken Range, Chris Lidberg,
Scott Barthel and Scott Diercks. From
Operations as Voice of the Customer
Sam Madsen, Tyson Brownlee and Brad
Goettsch. From Operations doing testing
and validation Jeff Leadstrom, Joe Lalley,
Graham Rose, Lloyd Lindon and Ralphie
Swartz Jr. From Engineering Nate Kurlin-
ski, Luke Gossen, Will Petty, Dusty Brun-
ner, Neil Dencklau, Roger Luedtke, Dan
Maki, Eric Manninen, Jason Seiter, Derek Swartz and Ian Taylor. A special call out again to Luke and Will who really
are the reason RGT2 and RGT3 turned out so well.
As these machines grow more and more people will get the chance to make their mark on this platform and hope-
fully when we look back 32 years from now, we can look back on this as fondly as we did on RG15.
