“Hang in there, baby.”
      I said to myself,
      as this heartache carved its place deep
      within my soul.

      “Hold your head up high, darling.”
      I whispered to myself,

         I

      a    s  a l w e d d o w n
      as I swallowed down
      the sting of rejection in my throat.
      “You're going to be alright, sweetheart.”
      I consoled myself,
      as I dried my wet cheeks
      and reapplied my lipstick.
      “This too shall pass, my love.”

      I sighed to myself,
      I  i h e   o   y e f
        s

      as I wrapped my arms
      around my back.
      Because dear heart,
      when the world is very hard for you,
      you need to be soft on yourself.
      it’s the only way you can carry forward.
