The House Fire
         I
              knew I was not supposed to play with matches!

          These are the words that have kept replaying in

          my  mind  all  these  years.  I  will  never  forget  that

          hot summer night.


          Mom had stood in the living room, with a worried
          look on her face. She had been looking more and

          more tired those past few days.


          “Elizabeth  dear,  I  have  a  shift  tonight,  so  I  am

          putting  Michael  in  charge  of  you  and  your

          brother  while  I’m  gone”  said  Clara  Afton  in  a
          hurry.



          “Okay, Mommy,” replied Elizabeth Afton.


          Clara  was  a  hardworking,  beautiful,  fair-skinned

          woman,  with  long  luscious  golden  hair,  styled

          with  two  braided  plaits  and  green  highlights  on

          each  side  of  her  face.  She  was  a  nurse  and  the
          mother of three.



          Michael Afton, was the eldest of Clara’s three
          children.  He had dark brown hair with purple
