The Lifestyle and the Culture of the Caribbean
On some days, when it was extremely hot because
the Caribbean is located in the Tropics near the
equator, the villagers would come flocking down
to my home in all different sizes, shapes and
colors. With loud squeals of delight, they would
strip down to their bathing clothes and suck up my
calm, turquoise, pristine waters. On these days I
would be most happy, because I would learn about
all the happenings in various towns and
neighboring islands.
I learned all the secrets of bush medicines used to
cure fevers and the common colds, insects’ bites,
and even naughty children who did not like to
listen to their parents. I learned about all the local
festivals held in various Caribbean countries, like
Junkanoo in the Bahamas, Crop Over in Barbados,
Carnival in Trinidad and Maskanoo in the Turks &
Caicos Islands.
