The use of energy efficiency measures in buildings and

transport is important because it provides savings

and has environmental benefits as well. Government

has an important role to play in encouraging and promoting
the use of energy efficiency in both the building and

transport sectors.

Below highlights some ways of improving energy Efficiency in:
a) Buildings

Energy-efficient building not only provide economic benefits but also environmental

benefits. Some ways of improving energy efficiency in buildings are:

• Governments should:

• ensure that there are building codes and standards are developed and
those in place are enforced for defaulters; and,

• provide tax incentives for the importation and use of energy-efficient building

materials, appliances, and equipment.Building owners should:

• consider the orientation of the building;

• maximize the use of natural ventilation and sunlight;
• place special attention to the placement of rooms, doors, windows, and

veranda;

• consider insulating the building to reduce the heat entering the building;

• make sure windows and doors are properly sealed;

• use double glazed windows;
