Hydroelectric energy
• Environmental impacts for hydroelectric energy is mainly associated with the
construction of large hydropower dams. These impacts include flooding which
destroys the forest, impacts on wildlife habitat, agricultural land and aquatic
ecosystems.
• Socio-economic benefits include job creation, increased income, industrial
development, cheap, stable, and reliable electricity.
Biomass
• The traditional use of biomass can lead to environmental impacts from forest
degradation, deforestation and its associated impacts to wildlife habitat and
biodiversity loss. Its use can also lead to soil degradation and associated impacts to
land and water pollution.
• Socio-economic benefits include job creation, increased income, industrial
development, cheap, stable, and reliable electricity.
Geothermal energy
• Environmental impacts include land use and changes to the vegetation and wildlife
habitat. There are other environmental impacts depending on the type of technology
and systems used for example hydrogen sulphide, carbon dioxide and methane
emissions.
• Socio-economic benefits include job creation, increased income, industrial
development, cheap, stable, and reliable electricity.
