The Jack-o-Lantern Scare
There will be unstable conditions affecting the
island throughout the night. Persons are asked to
be extra careful while travelling as landslides are
expected. This is Max Jones bringing you this
weather report.”
My heart skipped a beat because my mom was out.
Suddenly, my phone started ringing.
“Hi, Mom. Are you almost home? I just heard on
the radio that something is brewing,” I said as soon
as I answered the phone.
“Hi sweetheart, I’m sorry but I will be home a little
late. There’s been an accident so I am stuck in
traffic,” Mom replied.
“OK, Mom. Be safe,” I said to her.
There was a bright flash of lightning, followed by a
deafening crack of thunder. I scurried straight to
my bedroom and dived under the covers. I got up
after a while and looked out the window and saw
the trees outside dancing in the wind. When the
