A Memorable Trip to The Valley of Flowers
Ishaan Chaudhuri, Class 3
Last year in August, we made a trip to the Valley of Flowers (VoF) and Hemkund
Sahib. VoF is a National Park in Uttarakhand, high up in the mountains. This was a
trekking trip and I was very excited about the upcoming adventure. Our trek
started from Pulna, a small village 3 km away from Govindghat, which is located
on the banks of Alakananda River near Badrinath. We trekked 10 km to reach
Ghangaria, where we would stay for the next three nights. The trek was beautiful
through the hills with Laxman Ganga flowing by our side. I saw many waterfalls.
Although it was tiring, we were refreshed by the clean mountain air.
Lagan Verma, Class 5
The next day we got up early and were ready to visit the VoF. It is a 5 km trek, one
way. We left Ghangaria and took a narrow, rocky path. Soon, we came across
Pushpawati River that gushed down a cliff and looked very scary! After crossing
the river, the trail became very steep and difficult. The trees and flowers here were
different from what we had seen. Finally, we reached the top of the hill, from where
we saw the lush green valley below, the river flowing through it, and surrounding
snow covered mountains. We crossed a log bridge over a waterfall to enter the
valley. I had never seen so many flowers at one place. They were of all colours-
red, blue, yellow, purple, green and many more!
