untoward circumstances I was prevented from
reaching Der’ayyah ; yet, in adding a descrip­

tion of a province equal in extent to Syria to
the scanty knowledge of Arabia which we

previously possessed, I trust it will be appa­
rent that the several months I remained there
were neither inactively nor unprofitably em­

ployed.
